Tulsa, Oklahoma

We swung through Tulsa to gather information for a future visit.  The Chili Bowl Midget Nationals is on our list of races to attend but being in January in Tulsa has its challenges.

The Chili Bowl Midget Nationals is an indoor midget car racing event named after a local Chili company who sponsored the first event. The race has been hosted at the Tulsa Expo Center since it was founded in 1987.    It takes place on a 1/4 mile dirt track in January, two weeks after Christmas.

Originally built in 1952 the Golden Driller is a 75-foot-tall, 43,500-pound statue of an oil worker which stands out front of the Tulsa Expo Center. It is the fifth-tallest statue in the United States.  His right hand rests on an oil derrick which had been moved from a depleted oil field in Seminole, Oklahoma.

Woodrow Wilson Guthrie was an American singer-songwriter, one of the most significant figures in American folk music; his songs, including social justice songs, such as "This Land Is Your Land", have inspired several generations both politically and musically. He wrote hundreds of political, folk, and children's songs.

This Land Is Your Land
(originally named God Blessed America)
Turns out we didn't sing the full song in school.

The Spudder
“Steaking” Our Claim in Tulsa Since 1976
The Spudder offers juicy steaks and an eclectic experience, you’ll love. The restaurant is known for “The Gusher” - a mouthwatering 22-ounce bone-in rib eye steak. It’s named “The Gusher” because eating it is like striking oil!
