Madison, Wisconsin

The Dane County Farmers’ Market prides itself on being the country’s largest producer-only market. This means that every vendor on Capitol Square grows and tends to the products you purchase. The farmers you interact with milk the cows, process the cheese, collect the eggs, and tend to the bounty of vegetables.

Opened October 5, 1928, The Memorial Union Terrace is located on the shore of Lake Mendota on the campus of the University of Wisconsin in Madison.  It has gained a reputation as one of the most beautiful student centers on a university campus.  So grab a chair and soak up the sun on the historic Memorial Union Terrace. The years have passed, the space has grown and even the chairs have changed. But through it all, the Terrace has remained a favorite spot for UW students, faculty, staff, and anyone else looking to enjoy a sunny day.

State Street is a pedestrian zone located in downtown Madison near the State Capitol.
The street was a conventional four-lane undivided road until 1974, when a proposal was passed by the City of Madison to turn it into a pedestrian mall. Today, the street hosts a variety of shops, bars, and restaurants and is popular for its small-town appeal, musicians, jugglers and street performers, making it a common tourist attraction.

The Circus World Museum is a large museum complex which opened July 1, 1959 in Baraboo, Wisconsin, devoted to circus-related history. The museum, which features not only circus artifacts and exhibits, but also hosts daily live circus performances throughout the summer.

It was from Baraboo in 1884 that the Ringling Brothers Circus began their first tour as a circus. Over six seasons, the circus expanded from a wagon show to a railroad show with 225 employees, touring cities across the United States each summer. Baraboo remained the circus's headquarters and wintering grounds until 1918, when the Ringling Brothers Circus combined with the Barnum and Bailey Circus, which the Ringling Brothers had bought out in 1908. The combined entity, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, was very successful, and is the largest surviving circus company in the United States.

The museum sits on a large site in Baraboo that included the former wintering grounds of the Ringling Brothers Circus and includes eight of the ten remaining Ringling buildings on the grounds. Circus World Museum holds one of the largest collections of circus materials in the world, including circus wagons, posters, photography, and artifacts used by shows from all over the United States.  Some of the circus wagons were donated by Walt Disney.

Some interesting Circus facts
In 1927 Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus traveled in over 100 double length cars.  When they arrived in town throngs of people gathered to see the trains unload.
In 1940 it required 10 acres of land to set up the circus tents.  Included were the main tent or big top, menagerie tent, sideshow tent, cookhouse, horse tents and dressing room tents.  The interior of the Big Top of the Greatest Show on Earth held 12,000 people.  The acts were presented in three ring and four stages as well as the hippodrome track.
