New Mexico to Mississippi

Upon pulling off the Freeway in Deming our overnight spot, we realized that we forgot to stop by the dumpster upon leaving Country Thunder.  Happy to say that our Glad Force Flex trash bag held up for 269 miles.

U.S. Route 82 is an east–west highway in the Southern United States. Created in 1931 eventually became a 1,625-mile route extending from the White Sands of New Mexico to Georgia's Atlantic coast.  We got on in White Sands but turned off 500 miles short of the end.

Lake Chicot is a lake adjacent to the Mississippi River.  It is not only the largest oxbow lake in North America, but at 20 miles long it is the largest natural lake in Arkansas, formed 300 years ago by the meandering of the Mississippi River.

Three Rivers Petroglyphs Site - Tularosa, NM

Over 20,000 petroglyphs have been identified in this area.  These petroglyphs were made by a group of prehistoric Native Americans the archaeologists refer to as Jornada Mogollon
(hor-NAN-da muggy-OWN)
of which there are no known modern descendants.

This image is probably the best known and most photographed petroglyph at Three Rivers.  The body of this bighorn sheep is filled with a Mimbres-style geometric design and is pierced by three arrows.
