Mt. Baker is visible from a long ways away. We tried to get a close look at it but the clouds did their best to keep the peak hidden from us most of the day. Below are several pictures from our drive. The scenic Mount Baker Byway winds along the North Fork of the Nooksack River, ending at Artist Point at 5,100 feet in Heather Meadows. At the road's end, trail systems lead into the Mt. Baker Wilderness. During winter months Artist Point is closed.
Douglas Fir - Approximately 730 years old - 8 feet 2 inches in diameter
Picture Lake with Mount Shuksan in the background. When the wind in not disrupting the surface of the water the reflections of the mountains in the lake are very picturesque.
Heather Meadows
Bathroom or Igloo at Artist's Point?
Mount Baker peeking through the clouds. After waiting and watching the clouds move around the peak we finally got a picture of the top of the mountain. Snow still covered most of the trails in the area at this elevation and mosquitos were hungry at the lower elevations so not much hiking to be done here.
Nooksack Falls
A dramatic waterfall plummeting more than 100 feet over rocky outcrops.
White Salmon Creek
Next stop Whidbey Island....
