New Orleans, Louisiana

Good plan

The I-10 Twin Span Bridge, a  5.5-mile causeway, consists of two parallel trestle bridges. These parallel bridges cross the eastern end of Lake Pontchartrain in southern Louisiana from Slidell to New Orleans.

I guess we're gonna have to try it.  They are telling us Blue Plate Mayonnaise is better than Best Food AKA Hellmann's.  We'll see.

This place showed up as having the best Muffuletta sandwich.  Don't let the exterior and interior of the building fool you. You could barely walk around inside.  There was so much stuff it was kinda claustrophobic.  The sandwiches were amazingly delicious.  Best food we had in New Orleans.

Dave had the Mighty Muffuletta.  I had All That Jazz, a french medley of grilled ham, turkey & shrimp, swiss and american cheese accompanied by grilled mushrooms, tomatoes on grilled french bread with wow sauce.

The Original Cafe Du Monde Coffee Stand was established in 1862 in the New Orleans French Market. The Cafe is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, unless there is a  Hurricane. Their menu consists of dark roasted Coffee and Chicory, Beignets, White and Chocolate Milk, and fresh squeezed Orange Juice. The coffee is served Black or Au Lait. Au Lait means that it is mixed half and half with hot milk. Beignets are square French -style doughnuts, lavishly covered with powdered sugar.

He ordered the coffee black, but was thankful it came Au Lait.

Commander's Palace, nestled in the middle of the tree-lined Garden District, has been a New Orleans landmark since 1893. Known for the award-winning quality of its food and atmosphere, the history of this famous restaurant offers a glimpse into New Orleans' storied past and has been the go-to destination for Haute Creole cuisine and whimsical Louisiana charm.  Reservations need to be made months in advance.

What the heck?

Over the years there have many different road surfaces.  Each new surface is just laid over the old one.

Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop
Built between 1722 and 1732 is reputed to be the oldest structure used as a bar in the United States.  The structure and fence are in the old French Provincial Louis XV style used in French Louisiana. The building escaped two great fires at the turn of the 19th Century, due to slate roofing.
