Vernal, Utah

We got Ducked!

These petroglyphs located on private property.  Your entire group can enjoy the petroglyphs for a $5 donation.

The people represented by the images were apparently headhunters as depicted in several of the panels.

Three Kings Panel
Not sure which three are the Kings.

When we get back to the parking lot, we had been ducked again.

The Quarry Exhibit Hall allows visitors to view the wall of approximately 1,500 dinosaur bones. Here, you can gaze upon the remains of numerous different species of dinosaurs from the Late Jurassic period, including Allosaurus, Apatosaurus, Camarasaurus, Diplodocus, and Stegosaurus, along with several others.

Josie Morris Cabin
The cabin was built in 1924 by none other than Josie Bassett Morris herself. She spent four full decades here, in isolation, and without modern conveniences like indoor plumbing, electricity, or a phone line.
Even though choosing to homestead alone must have presented endless challenges, Josie managed to thrive here.

Turtle rock

On Saturday when we left Weber Crossing heading for Vernal, our alternator started acting up.  We ran our generator with the trickle charger, crossed our fingers and continued on.  After arriving in Vernal we searched out a few shops and on Tuesday were able to get a new alternator at CJ's Diesel Performance.

At the Jones Hole National Fish Hatchery, managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Bonneville Cutthroat Trout and Kokanee Salmon are raised to stock areas in Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado.

The Jones Hole area features a scenic canyon carved by a creek that flows to the Green River. Recreational opportunities include hiking, fishing, viewing pictographs, wildlife watching, and camping.

I hope we find this one!

We found it

Ely Creek Falls

We decided to have lunch at the top of the fall.

As soon as we took out our lunch this squirrel came running down the bank and is crossing the water on the rocks.

Next thing we knew he was behind us.  This was a too close for comfort.

After we shooed him away he moved over here where he could stare us down.

Apparently Ely Falls is popular with the Green River rafters.  One rafter climbs to the top and makes a butt dam, while the other rafter leans back against the fall.

Then the top rafter lifts the dam.  Instant shower.

You can't tell where to go

We were headed to Echo Park.  Right after you leave the Harpers Corner Road, you will descend quickly down several switchbacks.  These roads are impassable when wet.  Wouldn't you know it, as soon as we reached the trail head it started pouring.

Moving on to plan B
