Fort Piute
In 1867, a US mail route was created along the Mojave Road between San Bernardino, California and Prescott, Arizona. Military escort relays were established to protect the mail riders, and Fort Piute was one of several outposts built to house the escorts. Shortly after the fort was completed, the mail route was changed to a southern route, and the fort was abandoned after less than six months. The fort was built to last. The walls remained nearly intact into the 1930's.
The Murals just outside of the town of Chloride are the famous Purcell Murals painted by Roy Purcell. In 1966 Roy took a break from pursuing a Master's degree in Fine Arts at Utah State University to labor as a miner in the Cerbat mountains near Chloride, Arizona.
With the support of local residents, he painted a 2,000 square foot set of murals on some boulders about a mile and a half outside of town. The murals have held up well during the many years, and the colors have remained vibrant.
We were shocked to round the corner and see this Newmar motorhome here. They obviously drove out here before the rains. We're not sure how long before the roads get dried out enough or how they are going to get turned around. Some thought Newmar should use this for a commercial.

Stopping off at Redlands Truck & RV for our annual service
We found fellow FMCA 4-Wheelers members also having work done at Redlands Truck & RV. Getting caught up over breakfast at Carolyn's Cafe.
Visiting with fellow RVer, Deborah while we wait. Turns out we were both born at Quintard Hospital in San Diego. The hospital closed approximately one year after I was born. Most people have never even heard of the hospital. She is the only person I have ever met that was born at the same hospital as me.
