Bishop, California

Didn't quite make it all the way to Bishop today.  Someone was feeling a little under the weather.

Diaz Lake Campground

Brown's Millpond Campground

Searching for petroglyphs

There it is!

Bloody Hands

In addition to the group of hand prints there was this one all by itself.

The next one we are looking for is on top of this bluff

Over looking the Owens River

Sky Rock petroglyphs
Hidden atop an enormous boulder in the Volcanic Tablelands lies Sky Rock, a set of petroglyphs that face the sky. These superb examples of native American petroglyph artwork are thought to be Paiute in origin, but little is known about them.

It started hailing on us on our way down the bluff

We decided to call it quits for the day with the hail and came back out the next morning to find our next petroglyphs.

13 Moons Petroglyph
13 Moons gets its name from the enormous volcanic rock that contains 13 circles, which is believed to indicate the 13 full moons in a calendar year. Could this panel indicate an astronomy calendar? We will never know for certain but what we do know is that this panel is worth the visit!  The petroglyphs are believed to date back 2,000 years and are thought to be Paiute in origin. Not much else is known about this magnificent place.

This area named Noah's Ark had four separate panels.  However we never saw anything that looked like an Ark.
