This structure dates back to the 1890's and is one of the last precious remnants of a long-gone mining community.  Hidden Treasure Dam was breached decades ago and Henson Creek has flowed freely through it ever since.

Rocky Mountain Photography Club

Poughkeepsie Gulch is officially closed due to snow.  Made it down OK but decided to see if we can make it back up before having everyone come down.

Day 7
Governor Basin
Our Gear shift mechanism broke and we couldn't get the transmission out of park. With lots of help we were lowered down the hill to a flat spot where we learned how to shift it into gear from underneath.


Back at the motorhome Dave is making the repair with a plastic coat hanger.

Animas Forks

1882 Animas Forks Jail

The first propectors wintered here in 1873.  By 1885 the summer population reached 450 people.

In 1879 William Duncan built this two-story wood-frame house


Snowbank which has the road blocked to the town of Silverton.  It is not expected to open in 2019.

This mine is for sale if you are interested in becoming a miner.
