Loon Lake, California

Loon Lake sits just west of Lake Tahoe in the Sierra Nevada Mountains at an elevation of 6,500 feet.

RV spots on at the boat ramp for our size RV's

We hiked to the cell phone pullout area to check our email and check in with family

Trailhead for Barrett Lake
Barrett Lake is a fun trail located about 35 miles east of Placerville and north of Highway 50.  This 4 mile one way in and one way out Jeep trail had been know for being one of the tough ones in the Eldorado National Forest. There is a  72" gate at the entrance to prevent oversized rigs from accessing the trail.

About 100 ft. from the gate, you come across a rock garden that serves as a gate keeper. If you have troubles here, you might want to consider turning back.

Bridge over Jones Fork Silver Creek

Unfortunately with our late start we didn't make it to the Lake.

On our way back we broke off a valve stem and had to put on our spare tire.

Fixing the valve stem the hard way

We need to have a spare tire for the Rubicon Trail tomorrow.

  1. This facility is operated by American Land & Leisure. Reservations can be made at www.recreation.gov/campsite
Dry camping at $28.00 per night plus $10.00 to use the dump station. We preferred the Boat ramp camping.
