Here comes the storm

Rain, Hail, Thunder, Lighting and slippery snow

You know it's bad when the Mountain Goat heads for cover.

Jackson Glacier

The Highline Trail follows along the Continental Divide, also known as the Garden Wall.

Roughly one-quarter of a mile from the trailhead you'll arrive at the famous ledge with the reputation for terrifying those with a fear of heights

Hoary Marmot

Haystack Pass at an elevation of 7,024 feet, the pass forms the saddle between Haystack Butte and the Garden Wall,  With outstanding panoramic views and a great lunch spot.

While resting on this rock, a lady came by and told me I should buy the rock because I looked good on it.

We counted over 50 water crossing on this trail.  Some larger and some smaller.

This guys wasn't as brave as the last guy.  He decided to get off the trail to go around us.

Iceberg Trailhead

Iceberg Lake

We made it. 10 miles round trip with 1,200 feet elevation gain.

It may be pretty but bring your bug spray.  Even with bug spray on these guys were swarming over my head while I was trying to eat my lunch.

A much cuter lunch buddy

Swiftcurrent Lake

Josephine Lake

Grinnell Lake

You really get wetter than it looks

View of Grinnell Lake and Lake Josephine, as well as Sherburne Lake in the far off distance.

We made it. Grinnell Glacier, 8 miles round trip with a 1,600 elevation gain. By taking the two shuttle boats across Swiftcurrent Lake and Lake Josephine we were able to shorten the 12 mile hike to only 8 miles.  The down side was we were on a tight schedule to catch the last boat.

The weather changed and again we found ourselves walking in rain and hail.  We made it back to the boat in plenty of time,  Decided to treat ourselves to dinner at the historic Many Glacier Hotel.

  1. Very few campgrounds in this area. We didn't call early enough to get a spot at the KOA. We stayed at Red Eagle Motel & Campground. It worked out OK since we spend very little time at the motorhome. No room to walk between you and your neighbor. Was only 30 amp not 50 amp like we were told. They fail to mention that address listed for the motel is not the same address for the campground. Wifi did't work.
