This road trip started out pretty eventful. 3 to be exact.
1st - We notice a large cloud of dust in the air up ahead. As we approach we find that on the south bound side a car has just flipped off the highway coming to rest upside down.
2nd - All of a sudden at the same time we both notice large brown spots all over the windshield. We're not sure where it came from but we are sure what it was.
3rd - We are driving along and a 5th wheel is passing us. As he pulls over in front of us he immediately has a blow out. He is able to keep it under control and get pulled over on the shoulder. Luckily we are able to dodge all of the flying tire pieces.
All of this within in the first 180 miles.
Kaweah River RV Park
Three Rivers, CA
Kaweah River
Campground beach
The original park road went under the rock. I can see why they changed it. There were a lot of scrapes under there.
Moro Rock
Little did I know as I stood here and took this picture that later today I would be climbing out on top of this rock.
Moro Rock - A granite dome with a steep 1/4 mile staircase to the top with a 300 foot elevation gain.
Over 350 steps to the top at an elevation of 6,725 feet with spectacular mountain views
That's the road we traveled to get up here.
Buttress Tree
This tree fell 3 months before I was born.
Tunnel Log
A fallen Sequoia from 1937 that was tunneled through. The only tree you can drive through in the park.
Fell in 1917.
Many vehicles have been photographed on this log driveway. If they still allowed vehicles on it you would be seeing one with a white jeep on it.
Half mile trail down hill to the world's largest tree. Beware of the uphill climb.
General Sherman Tree
Hume Lake
What a nice trail around the whole lake.
Hume Dam
The 1st concrete Multiple Arch Dam
Built in 114 days in 1908 for $46,541
Even after they fall, sequoias endure. These trees resist decay, sometimes lasting for hundreds or even thousands of years on the forest floor.
Gamlin Cabin
Built in 1872
The General Grant Tree
Dave couldn't pass up the opportunity of buying gas from Americas oldest double gravity pumps. Or at least that's the excuse he used to stop in front of the ice cream shop.
Not the prettiest spot in the forest but the largest group of deer we have ever seen in one place,
We seem to finding a lot of these

Yes for those of you wondering #2 was number two. LOL
ReplyDeleteOne night while here we had what must have been a whole family of field mice come visit us . We rushed out and bought $35.00 worth of traps and deterrent and spent "all day" cleaning everything. Luckily we had full hook ups. We got real lucky. They disappeared and we never saw them again.
