Ocean Shores - North Beach

With 6 miles of flat, wide and sandy ocean beach and 23 miles of interconnecting freshwater lakes and canals, Ocean Shores is a captivating place of sand and surf. Started as a planned community in 1960 on a gorgeous peninsula that forms the north entrance to Gray's Harbor, Ocean Shores now covers 6,000 acres.  Ocean Shores calls itself the "Razor Clam Capital of the World".

We visited this very nice Interpretive Center while in Ocean Shores. Stacked up outside the building were remnants of old ship wrecks that had washed ashore. Inside they had several different displays of shipwrecks, wildlife and shore birds.

Right next door to the Elks Lodge is the Weatherwax.  A size able Nature Preserve in the heart of the Ocean Shores peninsula.  Provides Nature trails that wind through old growth strands of Hemlocks, Spruce and Cedar with a sprinkling of Alder.  Beautiful ground cover of salsl and several varieties of ferns and mosses.  Leave little doubt that this Ocean Shores own "little rain forest".
